Abstract
This study is about the relationship between family functioning and elementary school children¡¯s ADHD propensities recognized by their parents. This study was conducted to find how different family functioning and sub-domains such as cohesion and adaptation between families with ADHD children and families with non-ADHD children. A survey was conducted with 868 elementary school children¡¯s parents and the result was analyzed. According to the analysis, differences of family functioning (cohesion and adaptation) existed between ADHD children and non-ADHD children. Families of ADHD children tend to show some ¡¯separated¡¯ cohesion level and a ¡¯rigid¡¯ form of adaptation. Therefore, families with ADHD children show extreme cases than the ones with non-ADHD children. This indicates that integrated intervention is necessary for families with ADHD children, implying that family support, family cohesion, and family control are required to be strengthened when social workers intervene in the problems of ADHD children.
